Welcome

Dear Saint Patrick Academy Community,

Prayer is powerful. Through prayer, we grow in our relationship with Christ. Prayer allows us to discern among different paths and opportunities. We also rely on prayer in times of need or in gratitude. Our hope at Saint Patrick Academy is to help our families grow in prayer together, for a family united in prayer cannot be broken.

As we focus on our annual theme of Anchored in Faith, the faculty and staff will rely on this book throughout the year to help our students memorize certain prayers and to model the use of prayer inside the classroom and our daily schedules, but, more importantly, we aim to make prayer accessible for all of our students.

We encourage families to use this resource at home to learn more about our faith; lead by example in guiding our students in prayer; and, hopefully, recognize how we are all called to serve Christ in this world.

Saint Patrick, pray for us!

SPA Annual Theme Scripture: Anchored in Faith

SPA Annual Theme Scripture:
Anchored in Faith

This year our annual theme is Anchored in Faith. Our theme is inspired by the following two
Scripture passages. We will be referring to this
passage from Hebrews as well as this story from the Gospels throughout the year with our students.

“This hope we have as an anchor for the soul.” -Hebrews 6:19

This hope refers to the unwavering hope we have because of our faith in Jesus Christ and the presence of God in our lives. This hope is steady and firm like an anchor.

The Calming of the Storm
“He got into a boat and his disciples followed him.

Suddenly a violent storm came up on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by waves; but he was asleep. They came and woke him, saying, ‘Lord, save us! We are perishing!’

He said to them, ‘Why are you terrified, O you of little faith?’ Then he got up, rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was great calm.

The men were amazed and said, ‘What sort of man is this, whom even the winds and the sea obey?’”
-Matthew 8:23-27 (also can be found in Mark 4:35-41 and Luke 8:22-25)

SPA Annual Prayer

Each school year the Saint Patrick Academy learns and memorizes a new prayer. This year we are memorizing the Prayer to the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit fills each of us so that we can live as followers of Christ. Asking for the Holy Spirit’s presence in our lives helps us to stay anchored in faith. Our hope is that our students will learn to call upon the Holy Spirit in times of need in their lives and recognize the great power of the Spirit.

Prayer to the Holy Spirit
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Thy faithful and enkindle in them the fire of Thy love.
V. Send forth Thy Spirit and they shall be created.
R. And Thou shalt renew the face of the earth.
Let us pray. O God, Who didst instruct the hearts of the faithful by the light of the Holy Spirit, grant us in the same Spirit to be truly wise, and ever to rejoice in His consolation. Through Christ our Lord.
Amen

This is the prayer to the Holy Spirit that Pope Francis wants every Catholic to know
SPA Athlete's Prayer

Give me the grace to be a leader on and off the field.
Give me the grace to always act with integrity on and off the field.
Give me the grace to be humble on and off the field.
God, help me to compete well, but fairly.
Help me to try my best and encourage my teammates
to do the same.
Help me to always respect my opponents and help them
up when they are down.
If we win, allow us humble rejoicing, if we lose, keep us
from anger.
And let us always play for your glory God.
Amen.
Saint Sebastian, Patron Saint of Athletes, pray for us.

This year each student at Saint Patrick Academy has been given a Hallow account. Hallow is the number one prayer and meditation app available to date.

Hallow has something for everyone, of all ages, and of all places on their journey of faith. Your child is able to log on at school, but you can also use their login on your own personal mobile device. A single Hallow account can be used on up to 5 devices.

Username: child’s email address
Password: hallowed

Below are a few suggestions to get you started using Hallow. You can use the search feature in the app to find the suggested prayers.

Children and Teens

Intro: Littles
This five session prayer series uses the image of Jesus as the Good Shepherd to introduce younger children to prayer. Each prayer is 3-5 minutes long.

Intro: Middles-3rd and 4th
This six session prayer series helps children ages 8-13 learn how to create silence and meet God in the quiet.

Intro: Teens
For ages 14-18, this six session prayer series explores a variety of prayer styles.

Kids Bedtime Prayers
Short prayers to use with your children at bed time. They provide a great way to pray together as a family before bed.

Things to put on in the car

temptation but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of our death.

Fatima Prayer

Our Lady of Fátima
The Apostles Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of
Heaven and earth;
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son Our Lord,
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the
Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was
crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into Hell; the third day He rose again from the dead;
He ascended into Heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God, the Father almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting.
Amen.

The Nicene Creed

I believe in one God,the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages.

God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made.

For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.

He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is adored and
glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.

I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins
and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come.

Amen.

Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle.
Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen.

Guardian Angel Prayer

Angel of God, my guardian dear,
To whom God’s love commits me here,
Ever this day, be at my side, To light and guard,
Rule and guide. Amen.

8 Things to Know and Share About the Guardian Angels
Anima Christi

Soul of Christ, sanctify me.
Body of Christ, save me.
Blood of Christ, inebriate me.
Water from the side of Christ, wash me.
Passion of Christ, strengthen me.
O good Jesus, hear me.
Within Your wounds hide me.
Separated from You, let me never be.
From the evil one protect me.
At the hour of my death, call me,
And close to You bid me,
That with Your saints,
I may be praising You forever and ever. Amen.

Blessing Before Meals

Bless us O Lord, and these Thy gifts,
which we are about to receive from Thy bounty,
through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Act of Contrition

O my God,
I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee,
and I detest all my sins,
because I dread the loss of heaven, and the pains of hell;
but most of all because they offend Thee, my God,
Who are all good and deserving of all my love.
I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace,
to confess my sins, to do penance,
and to amend my life.
Amen.

Penance
Memorare

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine
intercession was left unaided.

Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me.

Amen.

Hail Holy Queen

Hail, holy Queen, mother of mercy, our life, our
sweetness, and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor
banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile show us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

(Verse) Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God.

(Response) That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Amen.

Prayer to the Holy Spirit

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Thy faithful and enkindle in
them the fire of Thy love.

Amen

A Parent’s Blessing for Their Children

At Saint Patrick Academy each child is known and loved. That being said, no one loves your children more than you do.

Children are precious gifts whom God has entrusted to you.

Parents have a unique privilege to be able to bless their children.

It could be when they leave for school, when they go to bed, or any time!

Below are brief instructions for blessing your child followed by a prayer you can pray on your own for your children.

  • Make the Sign of the Cross on your child’s forehead (use holy water if you have it!) while saying:

“May God bless you and keep you, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.”

  • Seal the blessing with a kiss on the forehead.

A Prayer for your Children

Loving God,
You are the giver of all we possess,
the source of all of our blessings.
We thank and praise you.

Thank you for the gift of our children.

Help us to set boundaries for them,
and yet encourage them to explore.
Give us the strength and courage to treat
each day as a fresh start.

May our children come to know you, the one true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

May your Holy Spirit help them to grow
in faith, hope, and love,
so they may know peace, truth, and goodness.

May their ears hear your voice.
May their eyes see your presence in all things.
May their lips proclaim your word.
May their hearts be your dwelling place.
May their hands do works of charity.
May their feet walk in the way of Jesus Christ,
your Son and our Lord.

Amen.
