In third grade, students spend most of the day on language arts and math. In reading we are reading chapter books. We are working on fluency, comprehension and writing. In math, we are focusing on multiplication, division, addition, subtraction and a depth of understanding in all these areas. We also spend a considerable amount of time on how to be a student. Organizational skills, testing taking, how to create a book report/poster/presentation are important parts of our curriculum.
A large part of third grade is learning to become an independent learner. A lot of the focus is being responsible for their work, actions and choices. I work with them on advocating for themselves whether academically or socially.
