The state-of-the private school will feature radiant heated floors, individually climate controlled classrooms, a new multipurpose field and connections to miles of nature trails. The buildings will include a community area, chapel and separate elementary and middle school areas.
“Every space has a purpose that comes together and forms a unique and inviting educational environment,” said Jim Broom, president of the Hope For Tomorrow Foundation that is leading the Saint Patrick Academy effort. “It is a great privilege to be a steward of the 149-year-old Saint Patrick School tradition in the city of Portsmouth. I cannot thank the tremendous number of people for giving of their time, talent and treasure.
The outdoor campus will also feature a sport court for foursquare, basketball and other games. The playground area will have playground equipment and natural playground features that will support outdoor curriculum as well. There will also be an outdoor amphitheater. Existing nature trails and outdoor fitness stations will become part of the physical educational program and build on the fun learning environment the new campus will have.
The groundbreaking celebration will begin with a 10 a.m. Mass at Immaculate Conception Church on Summer Street and will continue with a noon ceremony at the school site with community leaders. A picnic and games for all ages will follow. The community is welcome to attend and there is no charge. Parking will be at Community Campus at 100 Campus Drive.
Classes will continue at the current Austin St. location for 2017-2018 school year. For more information, visit www.saintpatrickacademy.org.
